When Amy gave birth to her son 3 months premature, it was cause for concern. Then when she learned that her newborn baby had a brain bleed, it felt like her whole world came crashing down. Ryan faced an uphill battle just to stay alive. But one critical decision led her to a special place—and a special group of people—who ultimately made all the difference.
As a child, Ryan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which severely affected his mobility. Years of therapy, corrective surgeries and leading-edge treatment helped him become the athlete he is today. Over the years, he developed a love for soccer and he’s training to someday join the US National Paralympic Team. A source of pride and inspiration for his family, two of Ryan’s siblings and his dad are now Atrium Health teammates. He is proof that with the right mindset and the right people to support you, anything is possible.
